Why I Love Instrumental Music

Why I Love Instrumental Music

My mother was the first one to introduce me to instrumental music. But this introduction was rather strange, as my mom had no direct interest in the genre. Instead, she had a love for affirmation tapes…many of which had instrumental music on them.

Anyway, she encouraged me to sit down at one of our oak tables and listen to the ones that had affirmations for getting good grades in school. I listened and fell in love. Not only did I make good grades in school, (as I graduated with a 3.8 GPA), but I also found myself at peace every time I listened to the music. Soon, I was listening to regular instrumental music without the affirmations. This would include New Age, jazz and classical music.

The love for this type of music continues today, though I admit that sometimes I feel uncomfortable telling people about my TRUE musical interests. Fortunately, I’ve never been laughed at or ridiculed for admitting I like instrumental music. In fact, I’ve actually been surprised at how many people love this type of music, yet don’t want to admit it.

Well, I for one am really sick of the stigma associated with instrumental music, especially classical pieces. People automatically assume that if you like that type of music, you must be white, old or conservative. And, while there’s nothing wrong with those things, such a mindset is still very ignorant. In reality, there are people of all demographics that like that type of music. And they should be proud of their interests. Why? No other music has been able to stimulate the soul like instrumental. Through it people can get in touch with their own creativity. Try doing that with other pieces where the main objective is to get you move on the dance floor.

Even slower, more romantic pieces can’t work the same creative magic as instrumental music. And the reason why is because there’s still someone else singing– someone else expressing THEIR feelings on whatever issue. Instrumental music allows you to evaluate your own thoughts and feelings without anyone else thwarting your spiritual peace.

(interetsed in listening to some instrumental music? Your already on a computer - google it! It is as easy as that - there are loads of websites that now offer instrumental music for free.)
