Cool As Snow.

If you enjoy intelligent pop music then check out the self-titled debut album by Miike Snow. You may have even heard one or two of their songs without knowing it. The album’s first track is an extremely catchy reggaesque number that has a slight whiff of The Police about it. Inevitably, it has already been used as a background on a few adverts and their melancholy single, ‘Burial’ has had a good amount of airtime on several of the larger radio stations.

Miike Snow is a trio of musicians from Sweden. Two of them are responsible for co-writing and producing the Britney Spears 2004 song, ‘Toxic’, but don’t let this put you off. They have a lot more depth to their music than you would think.

There are no weak tracks on the album. This is unusual in itself by today’s standards and I would say that this alone makes it worth a listen. The overall sound of Miike Snow is a little difficult to explain. There are all kinds of possible influences hidden away in it. After hearing it several times, I would say it has a bizarre mix of such things as; A-ha, Cat Stevens, House music, Electronica, Prince, Reggae, Gnarles Barkley and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Confused? Don’t be. Whatever blend is used to create the sound of Miike Snow it works. It all sounds very complex but it is not at all. The result is an album that is very easy to listen to and it will grow on you very quickly.

I have always been a big fan of good lyrics and Miike Snow has these as well. The songs are certainly very pop based but they have also got a satisfying depth to them.

Miike Snow is well worth investigating. If you are impressed by the album then have a hunt around on the internet for some of their other work. There are several remixes of songs kicking around out there, including a brilliant one of ‘The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance’ by Vampire Weekend.

However, I was looking on the page for botox london and I began to doubt if it will look better afterwards, some of the photos are a little bit questionable!
